Lowville Park Listening to the Walls event

A SOUND-IMAGE INSTALLATION about your MEMORIES of LOWVILLE PARK or BARN.
CONCEIVED BY THOM SOKOLOSKI (www.thomsokoloski.com) Commissioned by the City of Burlington Public Art Program.

LISTENING TO THE WALLS is a site-specific interactive installation inspired by the memories of the Lowville community.

Conceived in the tradition of a community ‘BARN-RAISING’, the public is invited to participate in a ‘MEMORY-RAISING‘– so that the participants can build and share an ORAL HISTORY around Lowville Park and the Barn! Adorning the upper walls of the barn will be 30 PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAITS of the STORYTELLERS, and below them will be designated areas where the public can cup a hand, place an ear and listen to the voices behind the walls tell their stories from within! We need 30 STORIES and 30 PORTRAITS of Lowville Park.

What do I need to do?
1. Remember a story! Make sure it is a real experience; compelling and relevant to the park and/or barn. It could be about history, romance, happenings, secrets, camping, spirituality, personal creativity, etc.
2. Send Thom an email to studio.sokoloski@gmail.com (include ‘Interest to Participate’ in your subject line). The sooner the better!
3. Schedule a time with Thom to have your story recorded and have your portrait taken before Tuesday, September 17, 2019 (size on barn image above).

‘Listening to the Walls’ opens on September 27th as part of the City of Burlington’s Culture Days.
